This is a SELF-GUIDED group, but we would like to ensure there is a gallery assistant available during their visit.

Leah Ross will speak to the group in the PT to provide a “Welcome to the BCMM and importance of music to Bristol and the Southwest Virginia Region” to be followed by a self-guided tour of the museum.

Expectations:

Call time is at 5:45, with a Pre-Show meeting at 6:00. In the pre-Show meeting, we will cover which Staff Members are in charge, if there will be a Meet and Greet, if there are any ADA needs, and any other information you may need for that evening's event.

Interact with guests as they wait for the doors to open. 

Dress Code: Special Event “uniform”.

Ensure the theater stairs are clear of any obstructions (guests or personal belongings).

Ushers should ensure ticketed guests find a seat, and make sure that the doors are always closed quietly.

Ensure guests stay free of the Stage area at all times.

You may enjoy the show between duties, but please watch from the wings and be prepared to help guests or performers enter and exit quietly as needed. 

Things to note:

Four volunteers are required for this event to run smoothly. These spots are first come, first served. When artists are announced, we will send you an email with links to the artists and you are encouraged to listen to them if you sign up for the show. 

There is no assigned seating; all seats are first come, first served.

ADA seating - If we have any known guests who require accessible seating, those seats will be notated and reserved with the guests' names on them. 

This is a live show that is being recorded for television. Leaving the theater mid-show is discouraged to reduce light and sound interference with the performance and recording.

Roles (Location and job expectation):

Manifest: Greet guests at the Front Door; Check them off the manifest as they arrive.

Moore Street Door Usher: At the Moore Street Door, help with seating, doors, and assist the Stage Manager in helping the Artist in and out of the theatre.

Left Door: The door closest to the Green Room/Blue Stocking Learning Center; help  with seating and doors.

Floater: Help as needed

Stage Assistant: Assist with stage needs

Green Room Assist: Help where needed; Assisting the Stage Manager.

Assist BCM staff member with welcoming potential new volunteers and introducing them to the museum.

Volunteer handbook and manual will be provided and are available electronically here for reference. Use them as a guide to inform new volunteers of what the various roles, opportunities, and expectations are for museum volunteers. Tell new volunteers about your experience and help them understand what it is like to volunteer with the museum. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum with emphasis on volunteer spaces and typical job assignments. 

For Docent's to assist the Volunteer Coordinator with New Volunteer Orientation. Orientation covers going over the Volunteer Handbook and a quick walk through of the museum.

Full Museum Rental.

Event from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. 

Volunteers needed to set up, take down, and assist during the event as gallery assistants or general floaters.

This event is in conjunction with downtown halloween activities and often includes costumed visitors, volunteers, and staff.

Activity schedule is coming soon, but please let us know if you are available to help out on this day.

We anticipate higher traffic and would like additional gallery assistants all day. We also plan a variety of family-friendly activities at certain times throughout the day. The amount of volunteer participation may affect which activities we are able to provide. Activities we have provided in the past include; banjo bingo, intsurment petting zoo, country dancing, scavenger hunts, activity sheets, story time semi-spooky stories, halloween themed crafts, and more.

Assisting the ETNBA (East TN Bluegrass Association) with anything they may need during their monthly Jam sessions. 

This is a regularly occurring training

July 28 - Museum Store Training - This will involve training on the registers and provide lunch coverage. 

August 25 - Office Administrative Assistance - This is for anyone interested in helping out at the administrative office with tasks such as festival fulfilment, mailing (envelop stuffing and addressing), supplies inventory, and generally supporting the office staff with daily administrative tasks and needs. The training will include a tour of the office focused on where people and things are located and how to use some of the relevant appliances. This will be held at the office.

September 29 - Outreach Events

1927 Society Concerts. These include heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar before the show.

Volunteers must be 21+ to volunteer for this event.

This event will be featuring the artist Jontavious Willis.

Tickets: $20

A ballad swap, hosted by eighth-generation ballad singer Donna Ray Norton, celebrates Appalachian heritage. This informal gathering offers a glimpse into an age-old practice, bringing together singers from across the region to share stories and songs passed down through generations.

This is for Interns to record their hours.

Shadowing, or learning by observation, is one of the best ways to train for a new role and become comfortable within the museum. Sign up for this shift when you intend to be in the museum in a learning capacity.  

Please email the Volunteer Coordinator after signing up for this flexible shift with the exact date and timeframe that you intend to shadow. Specific hours must be entered manually in order for you to receive proper credit for your time. Learning is working!
